The main archery bodies in South-Africa are as follows:

SANAA - South African National Archery Association

The South African National Archery Association (SANAA) is the national sports federation for target archery in South Africa. It is affiliated to a number of sporting bodies, including the international governing body FITA, the South African Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee (SASCOC) and Archery South Africa. The SANAA committee consists of Executive members and Representatives from the Provincial bodies. SANAA presents target events on a national level and indoor events on a provincial level. A wide variety of disciplines and equipment styles are catered for during National Championships.

SANIFAA- South African National Archery Association

SANIFAA - the South African National Indoor and Field Archery Association - is the local archery body affiliated to the international IFAA (International Field Archery Association) and competes in the IFAA world events. The SANIFAA committee consists of Executive members and Representatives from the Provincial bodies.
Although named SANIFAA, this association presents a variety of events.

  • Normal Field archery events
  • Bow-Hunter archery events (paper targets)
  • 3D events (three dimensional rubber animals)
  • Indoor events

The African Chapter of IBO, the ABO, was established in 2005 by a group of dedicated archers, with the mutual desire to see that 3-D Archery, expand and flourish.
Our Mission:
To adhere to the Ideal of "Unification of Bowhunters" and to promote and encourage the sport of Ethical Bowhunting and 3-D Archery.To educate, establish and maintain the highest level of competitive archery as set out in the Original Charter of the IBO.

  • To serve as an education tool for wild life conservation and ethical hunting practices.
  • The essential components to our preamble to our constitution are to foster, encourage and promote the sport of target archery and bowhunting in general.
  • In the 25 years that the IBO has been in existence, and to whom we are affiliated, it has grown to be the Largest Bowhunting Organization in the World!!!
  • We as the ABO are now a part of that legacy, and we invite you to join us!!!
  • The sport of Tournament archery and Bowhunting has exploded in South Africa. Numbers ranging from an estimated 5 500 000 in the United States, to over 50 000 in South Africa…..making it one of the fastest growing sports in our country.
  • The current Rifle Licensing laws escalating that number on a daily basis.
  • Bowhunter education being the primary focus of the IBO enabled them to develop a series of National / International Tournaments. Today these 3-D events are by far the largest and most prestigious archery events in the world¦.. And also dominating the South African Tournament circuit!!

The South African Bowhunters Association (SABA) was established as a non-statutory and professional association for bowhunters and acts as a representative of its members as an independent, non-profit, self-funding association. On behalf of its members, SABA strives to best serve them and act as defender for all bowhunters in South Africa.
SABA commits itself to developing and maintaining an organised bowhunters association, which is non-racial, non-sexist, democratic, representative, transparent and accountable to its members.

SABAs Focus:
SABAs activities focus on all bowhunting aspects of the bowhunting industry. We believe that bowhunters can positively influence Government and the public in general by:

  • Anticipating and influencing negative perspectives regarding bowhunting;
  • Promoting ethical bowhunting by all bowhunters;
  • Maintaining lifelong commitment to continuing education bowhunting development; and
  • Recruiting more members to ensure an united front to the benefit of the bowhunting industry.

SABAs Mission:
SABAs mission is to motivate bowhunters of all race and sex to know and experience bowhuntng in its truest form by fostering, expanding, promoting, protecting and perpetuating:

  • Ethical bowhunting through ongoing education; and
  • Members interest and the right to bowhunt.

SABAs Core Values:
Educating all bowhunters to hunt in a humane and ethical way;
Building trust relationships with Government, its parastatals and other relevant bodies;

  • Valuing ethical behaviour at all times; and
  • Ensuring minimal suffering to the quarry.
